Alessandro Iliprandi appointed new President of UNIC

At the Italian Tanneries Association’s last Annual General Meeting, which marked the association’s 80th anniversary, Alessandro Iliprandi, the CEO of Bonaudo, was elected as the new president of UNIC
On the 12th of June, at the 80th Annual Assembly of UNIC at the Leather Technology Centre in Santa Croce sull’Arno, Alessandro Iliprandi, CEO of Bonaudo, was elected President, succeeding Fabrizio Nuti, who had held the role for six years.
“This is a particularly difficult time for the sector. There are many challenges ahead of us, but we have vision, courage and a constant determination to improve on our side”, said Alessandro Iliprandi.
The priorities of his mandate will include “strengthening collaboration with our customers throughout the supply chain, achieving an even more incisive European representation, and supporting a culture of training and leather, with particular attention to younger generations and the dissemination of skills.”
Iliprandi will be supported in his role as the association’s 19th President by Vice-Presidents Matteo Mastrotto (Rino Mastrotto Group), Fabrizio Nuti (Nuti Ivo Group), and Gianni Russo (Russo di Casandrino).
The meeting also provided an opportunity to reflect on the association’s eighty years of activity. This was marked by the presentation of RADICI, a historical volume produced by UNIC that recounts the evolution of Italian tanning from the post-war period to the present-day, using documents, images and testimonies.
During his address, outgoing President Nuti said, “These have been six of the most intense, complex and disruptive years of recent decades, and perhaps of the entire 80-year history of our association”. “We have faced a pandemic, an energy crisis, inflation, geopolitical tensions, trade conflicts, tariffs and unpredictable wars”.
In his view, the association’s adaptability and responsiveness enabled the sector to strengthen its industrial strategies, sense of identity, and reputation at local, national, and international levels, even during difficult periods.
Nevertheless, the celebration of the 80th anniversary coincides with a particularly challenging period for the tanning sector. In 2025, Italian tanning production declined in value by almost 6% and in volume by 4%, while exports fell by 5%. The number of companies and employees also decreased.
