Assomac signs agreements to support Kenya’s leather and footwear sector

Assomac has signed strategic agreements with Kenyan partners to support the development of the country’s leather and footwear industries by supplying Italian technologies and machinery
The Italian Association of Tanning, Shoe and Leather Goods Machinery Manufacturers (Assomac), on behalf of the Italian supply chain also represented by UNIC (tanning) and UNPAC (tanning chemicals), has signed strategic agreements with the Kenya Association of Manufacturers and Equity Bank Kenya Limited.
As part of the partnership, Italian technology providers will support the transformation of local raw materials into higher-value products, helping Kenyan companies to integrate into global supply chains. Meanwhile, the Equity Bank will provide local buyers with access to financing solutions, enabling them to invest in machinery and improve their production capabilities.
These agreements were formalised in Nairobi during a leather industry event held at the Kenya International Investment Conference. The event was promoted by the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry, in partnership with the Kenya Leather Development Council and the Kenya Investment Authority.
The initiative also aligns with the Italian government’s Mattei Plan, forming part of the wider “Sistema Italia” approach. This involves coordinated efforts between industry associations, institutions, and development agencies to promote international cooperation and industrial development.
Building on an exploratory mission conducted in 2025, which evaluated Kenya’s industrial potential and paved the way for closer collaboration between stakeholders, the project aims to further strengthen these ties.
“With our wealth of expertise and integrated supply chain models, we aim to make a tangible contribution to the development of sustainable and competitive production ecosystems worldwide, strengthening the potential for Kenyan companies to establish a presence in international markets”, said Mauro Bergozza, President of Assomac.
