Birkenstock's new shoe factory starts up
The German footwear company announced that its new facility located near Pasewalk, in Northeast Germany, has started operating according to schedule, just 17 months into the construction period
The new Birkenstock production facility, located in the Berlin-Szczecin industrial park near Pasewalk, has started operations on the 5th of September according to schedule. It was the largest single investment in the history of the company, at a cost of almost 110 million euros.

The facility will initially employ around 200 people, who will work in both the production and administrative areas. But the aim is to gradually expand capacities to a level around of 1 000 employees in the medium term. At the same time, Birkenstock's factory in Görlitz will change its focus and be completely converted to cork-latex production.

The footwear brand, whose roots date back to 1774 in Germany, employs around 6 200 people worldwide. It operates a vertically integrated manufacturing base and produces all its footbeds, for which is known, in the European country. It also assembles more than 95% of its products and sources over 90% of its materials and components in Europe.
