Spain commits to Action Plan for footwear and components industry

Both FICE and AEC have welcomed the commitment of the Spanish Ministry of Industry to develop an action plan for the footwear and components industry
The Spanish Federation of Footwear Industries (FICE) and the Spanish Association of Footwear Component Companies (AEC) have welcomed the commitment of the Spanish Ministry of Industry and Tourism to advance a specific action plan for the footwear and components industry.
This announcement follows the visit of the Minister for Industry and Tourism, Jordi Hereu, to Elche and Elda on the 16th and 17th of September, which followed a meeting with FICE and AEC in Madrid in May. He took the opportunity to visit companies from the footwear and components sectors and the Centre for Technology and Innovation INESCOP, where he learned about industrial processes, technology and research and innovation activities.
During the INESCOP meeting, participants discussed the key areas to be covered by the forthcoming Action Plan, including industrial modernisation, productive investment, innovation, digitalisation, artificial intelligence, training, financing, internationalisation, and generational renewal.
FICE and AEC said that the time has come for the sector to move from diagnosis to action. They called for a concrete roadmap that covers the entire footwear value chain, including footwear itself, its components and materials, tanning, textiles, lasts, soles, heels, and the necessary machinery and technology.
They added that the plan should help to preserve manufacturing capacity, boost production and enhance the competitiveness of Spanish companies.
The two organisations are organising a working meeting with the Ministry’s Directorate-General for Industrial Strategy and SMEs, as well as the Commissioner for Reindustrialisation. The meeting will focus on setting priorities, planning initial projects, and establishing a timetable for action. FICE and AEC expect to review initial progress on the Action Plan at the FUTURMODA trade fair on the 14th and 15th of October.
