Offenbach hosts successful Barefoot Shoe Fair launch

Exhibitors and attendees praised Barefoot European Shoe Fair for its vibrant atmosphere, diverse product offerings and growing consumer interest, signalling a shift from niche to mainstream appeal
“It was a sensational start! We had visitors from 41 countries, not only from Europe but also from overseas. I am delighted that the exhibitors were extremely satisfied… Barefoot shoes are becoming more widespread – this is the beginning of an established event”, shared Arnd Hinrich Kappe, Chief Executive Officer at Messe Offenbach.
The inaugural edition of the Barefoot European Shoe Fair, held in Offenbach from late July to early August 2025, concluded with praise from exhibitors and attendees. Organised by Messe Offenbach in partnership with the German Footwear and Leather Goods Industry Association (HDS/L), the fair featured over 70 exhibitors and around 80 brands.
The product range included footwear for women, men and children, as well as trekking and safety shoes. The event drew visitors from different continents, including trade professionals, suppliers, service providers and end consumers.
A key highlight was the fair's informative and engaging atmosphere, bolstered by scientific presentations and panel discussions focused on barefoot footwear. According to organisers, the first two days were dedicated to trade visitors, while the weekend marked a rare opening to the public in the context of German shoe fairs. This format enabled direct interaction between brands and end users. Exhibitors and attendees alike commended the vibrant setting and meaningful exchanges.
The positive response underscores the sector’s growing relevance. According to Groundies' Michael Hanus, interest in barefoot footwear is aligned with a broader longevity movement that prioritises health and wellness from a young age. Industry voices, including HDS/L’s Deputy Managing Director Torben Schütz, agreed that barefoot shoes are transitioning from a niche interest to a mainstream category with long-term potential.
The event appears set to become a recurring fixture for the barefoot footwear community. With the success of the inaugural edition, organisers have already confirmed the next instalment of the fair, scheduled to return to Offenbach from 23 to 26 July 2026.
