Leather sector unites for World Leather Day
Taking place on the 29th of April, Leather Naturally is launching a year-round “Make It Leather” campaign to reframe material choices around durability, repairability and more responsible consumption.
“We are turning World Leather Day 2026 into a truly global moment”, says Dr. Luis Zugno, Chairman at Leather Naturally. “On the 29th of April, we are bringing the entire ecosystem together to champion the incredible value of leather. It is about craftsmanship, truth and action”.

Leather Naturally has launched a new global campaign ahead of World Leather Day in late April, aiming to bring the international leather sector under a single message: “Make It Leather”.

The initiative is framed as a year-round communications push rather than a one-off awareness moment, with plans to keep the theme visible across industry channels beyond the World Leather Day milestone.

According to the organisation, the campaign is intended to connect a wide range of stakeholders across the leather value chain, including agriculture and processing, manufacturing, design, retail and end consumers.

A central objective is to reshape debate about material choices at a time when the fashion industry is under scrutiny for overproduction and short product lifecycles. The World Leather Day 2026 will position leather as a material associated with long use, versatility and durability.

Theme

The “Make It Leather” theme signals a shift from general promotion towards encouraging deliberate selection of leather in applications where longevity, repairability and product performance are important factors.

The campaign narrative highlights leather’s origin as a byproduct of the food industry and focuses on attributes such as ageing, patina and the ability to be repaired, presenting these characteristics as aligned with longer-lasting consumption.

Digital Hub

Leather Naturally has created a dedicated digital hub to anchor its “Make It Leather” campaign, providing a central online space for industry-facing resources linked to World Leather Day

The web platform is intended to be easy to navigate and will compile factual information, inspiration and materials aimed at addressing common misconceptions. Alongside the site, the organisation plans a coordinated communications drive spanning social media, public relations activity and partnerships with international influencers.

The initiative is designed to involve a broad group of the value chain, from suppliers and B2B (business-to-business) partners to designers, students, artisans and brands, with members receiving a toolkit of images and ready-made social assets and the wider industry encouraged to adapt the message for events and digital storytelling.

Success

Leather Naturally has indicated that it will judge outcomes not only by audience reach but by whether the campaign influences decisions and perceptions, including whether more designers choose leather, attracting new talent into the sector and whether manufacturers gain greater confidence in discussing sustainability, innovation and responsibility
