Christian Laboutin chooses Portugal

Portugaba is a bag manufactured with Portuguese handcrafted techniques and aims to pay tribute to the country that welcomed the designer

For a long time, Portugal has been a source of inspiration and a second home to Christian Louboutin and now the French designer designed a bag in honor of the country.

The Portugaba bag is available in two colors and is exclusively on sale at the website My Theresa. The first products available sold out immediately.

The handcrafted methods include a thorough technic of pulling individually the yarns of a piece of fabric to create prominences with interesting textures, similar to velvet and slatted. Both technics demand “a thorough attention and several hours of dedication”.

"These experts are used to do handcrafted work, don’t use patterns, guidelines or machines besides wood looms machines”, as one can read in the official website of the French designer passionate about Portugal. Louboutin will even open a charming hotel in Alentejo, in the south of Portugal.

Folklore, symbolism and the Portuguese history are part of the bag’s design. The handles are decorated with ceramic beads, which refer to the patterns of the Portuguese tiles and also served as inspiration for the lining. The traditional Capa de Honra (honor cape) from Miranda do Douro is also visible in the central panel of Portugaba.
