Signs of optimism at the close of APLF
The leather trade fair returned to Hong Kong from the 19th to the 21st of March, with most leaving with positive impressions despite some caution due to the challenging macro environment
For its 40th anniversary, APLF returned to Hong Kong after a four-year absence - the first two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic and then two years in Dubai. Under one roof, exhibitors, buyers and associations from around the world were able to network and enjoy the long-awaited return of Asian visitors. “APLF provided a good opportunity for clients and purchases, especially for new customers”, said Massimo De Luca of Italven as quoted by La Conceria.

In addition, the trade fair was complemented by a series of conferences, forums and workshops to create a well-rounded and integrated event for all industry stakeholders. A highlight was the third edition of the Global Footwear Executive Summit, which brought together industry leaders, executives and experts to discuss the latest developments in materials, manufacturing technologies, retail strategies and consumer behaviour.

The event also allowed the participants to take the temperature of the market. And despite the general optimism felt by all participants in the event, there are signs of some caution for the near future. “After a very challenging 2023, the current context remains complicated, and we remain fixed on evaluating the market every three months”, warned, for example, a representative of Brazilian Krummenauer (source: APLF and La Conceria).

APLF is now scheduled to return to Hong Kong from the 12th to the 14th of March 2025.
