Portuguese group Kyaia launches new footwear brand

The Fred&Frederico brand, which was launched earlier this year and takes its inspiration from mountain sports, is a tribute to the founding family of the Kyaia Group
“From generation to generation, a tradition is kept alive, nurturing a family history rooted in the shoe as a symbol of honouring life, generating ideas, building businesses and values, and providing comfort and well-being”. This is the starting point for Fred&Frederico, the Kyaia Group's newest brand.
Officially launched at the last edition of MICAM, the Kyaia Group’s new brand draws inspiration from mountain sports to create bold and comfortable models.
“This brand is a generational tribute to the family of the founder, Fortunato Frederico”, explains Ricardo Esteves. “It is a brand inspired by mountain sports and very different from the other brands of the group”. The head of Kyaia explains that “comfort has been a priority for us, as it has for all our brands. Fred&Frederico follows current market trends towards sportier footwear, such as trail running or trekking shoes”.
“Grandfather, father and son: before, now and after. A mixture of need and effort, creativity and entrepreneurship, vision and nostalgia, all synthesised into one brand. A sign of hope, a tribute to art and a cult object that generates smiles and affection. All of this is encapsulated in a shoe full of history and stories to tell”.
Founded in 1984, Kyaia now employs 600 people and has become one of the largest companies in Portugal’s footwear industry. Its portfolio of brands includes Fly London, Softinos and Asportuguesas. The group also owns the Foreva footwear retail chain and the Overcube online marketplace. For more information, visit their website.
