APICCAPS joins Vogue Business to address the ongoing global production upheaval
Today, APICCAPS and Vogue Business are hosting an event at the Nine Orchard rooftop, New York, to explore new production opportunities in an increasingly unstable global environment
In times of high uncertainty, a panel of industry experts curated from Vogue Business, the Portuguese Footwear, Components and Leather Goods Manufacturers’ Association (APICCAPS) and forward-thinking brands will discuss positive developments and solutions in the context of Portuguese footwear production.

The conversation will address APICCAPS' investments in technology and the ways in which the industry is adapting to meet the needs of global brands and international markets. Speakers will include Paulo Gonçalves (Director, APICCAPS), Madeleine Schulz (US Reporter, Vogue Business), Jonathan Cohen (Co-Founder and Creative Director of Jonathan Cohen), and Chris Echevarria (Founder and Creative Director, Blackstock & Weber).

This is just one of the many initiatives that the Portuguese footwear industry will be promoting in the US in the coming months. “We are committed to continuing our growth in the world’s most important footwear market”, says Luís Onofre.

“In a climate of frank uncertainty, we are stepping up our promotional initiatives”, explained the President of APICCAPS. “We are showing North American customers that Portugal is a valid and versatile business partner with significant investments underway in areas such as automation, robotics and sustainability”. “This is the moment for diplomacy. We are here to stay,” emphasised Luís Onofre.

The US is a strategic market for Portugal and is currently the sixth largest destination for its exports. Over the past decade, sales of Portuguese footwear to the US have doubled, with figures reaching close to 100 million euros by the end of 2024. “Although we already export more than 90% of our production to 170 countries, we consider the North American market to be strategic for the Portuguese footwear industry over the next decade”, concludes the President of APICCAPS.
