Nike creates an immersive experience for the Olympic Games at Centre Pompidou
The US-based sportswear giant has teamed up with the Centre Pompidou, one of the historic landmarks of Paris, to celebrate the unending story of Nike Air innovation during the Olympic Games
Last Wednesday, Nike inaugurated the “Art of Victory” exhibition at the Centre Pompidou to celebrate the Nike Air innovation journey at the site that inspired the design of the Air Max 1 nearly 40 years ago. At the same time, the company has transformed the iconic façade of Pompidou into a canvas that showcases groundbreaking sports stories in one of Paris’ most iconic outdoor spaces, which will also play host to a series of sports experiences.

“I think the message of this partnership, for me, is to go ahead and be bold when you have a good idea”, commented Tinker Hatfield, who credits the Pompidou’s inside-out architecture as the inspiration for the visible Air cushioning technology he integrated into the Air Max 1. “Go ahead and take a risk. Be at least a little disruptive so people notice what you're doing. I think that's true for the building as well as the Air Max 1. The technology is important, but it's the act of boldness and being disruptive that made everybody pay attention”.

Outside, and also commissioned by the Centre Pompidou with the support of Nike, the public will also be invited to engage with art in a new way through the public and skateable sculpture, “Cycloid Piazza” (2024), designed by French artist Raphael Zarka in collaboration with architect Jean-Benoît Vétillard.

The “Art of Victory” exhibition will be open until the 11th of August. Visitors can register to view the exhibition and find out more about the daily programme of events celebrating sport outside the Centre Pompidou at Paris.nike.com.
