Model Suki Waterhouse designs sneakers line for Superga UK
The 22 years old model has teamed up with footwear brand Superga to launch a capsule collection of shoes
Superga has collaborated with many famous names in the past, including Henry Holland. Now the shoe brand has joined forces with Suki Waterhouse to create flatforms.
The new line of shoes from Superga, due to be launched at the end of August 2014, includes three flatform style shoes priced at £68. The exclusive collection will be the model first designing experience for the brand and each of the “styles encompass her personality, femininity and playfulness”, according to the press release issued by the company. The collection features pastel shades available in a sugary blue and pink with a bolder option available in red and navy. A cross between a flat plimsoll and a platform shoe, each of the designs are in the brand's popular flatform style and feature hearts imprinted into the sides of the soles.
Suki Waterhouse, the face of the brand's Spring/Summer 2014 campaign, got inspiration to the designs on her time in Paris. Commenting on the collection, Suki said: "I am very excited about the launch of my new collection with Superga. I really enjoyed creating for the brand and adding a piece of myself into the designs. I hope that everyone loves them as much as I enjoyed making them."
The Superga brand was created in 1911, when the company Anonima per Azioni Walter Martiny started producing waterproof rubber-soled boots for agriculture, and vulcanised rubber-soled footwear. Twenty years later Superga counted several models used in sports activities (tennis, basketball, yachting, fitness training). In the fifties the company improved production to a great extent (according to the company as a result of their merger with Pirelli), and in the next two decades the number of pairs of shoes produced jumped from 2 to 12 million per year. In 1993 Superga spun off from Pirelli and joined the So.PA.F group until, in February 2004, BasicNet became its sole world licensee and in 2007 acquired its entire stake.
