Drop in Brazilian leather exports
The Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB) has announced the figures for international trade during the first semester of the year, marked by a decline in exports
According to CICB, based on numbers released by the Secretary of International Commerce, leather exports in June 2015 totaled 196 million US dollars decreasing by 20.2% from 246 million US dollars in similar month last year.
There was also a decrease of leather exports compared to the previous month of May, with value of exports going down by 4.6% from 206 million US dollars.
CICB reported a 15.2% decline for the first semester of 2015 compared to the same period last year.
According to the same source during the first semester of the year the main destinations for leather exports were China (28%), Italy (16%), the United States (11%) and Hong Kong (7%).
The same source indicated that leather and hides accounted for 1.3% of total exports from Brazil.
