Sustainable materials take centre stage at APLF 2026

Sustainable materials for fashion and footwear will take the spotlight at the NextGen Fashion Material Tech Talk on the 13th of March 2026 during APLF 2026 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre
Taking place from the 12th to the 14th of March 2026, APLF is one of the world’s leading trade platforms for the leather and fashion materials industries. Held annually in Hong Kong, this event comprises three co-located fairs – APLF Leather, Materials+ and Fashion Access – that bring together tanneries, material innovators, manufacturers, and global brands.
The NextGen Material Tech Talk, which is being organised as a curated forum during the Materials+ exhibition, is expected to attract around 150 participants. These will include representatives from fashion and footwear brands, as well as sustainability officers, R&D team members, investors and industry analysts.
Taking place from 14:00 to 17:00 on the 13th of March, it will feature keynote presentations, expert panels and short innovation pitches. These will explore developments in bio-based materials, circular design, and emerging alternatives to traditional leathers and textiles.
A key highlight of the programme will be a panel discussion on ‘Scaling Bio-Based Alternatives’, which will explore how innovative materials can transition from laboratory development to industrial production and widespread market adoption.
Ultimately, the aim of this half-day forum is to provide a platform for exchanging ideas and exploring partnerships that could influence the development of the next generation of materials and accelerate the sustainable transformation of the fashion and footwear sectors.
