Nike appoints new Chief Innovation Officer
Following John Hoke’s announcement of his retirement, the US-based sportswear company promoted Tony Bignell, Vice President of running footwear, to Chief Innovation Officer
Bignell will report to Phil McCartney, Executive Vice President and Chief Innovation, Design and Product Officer. According to an internal memo obtained by Footwear News, he has already started transitioning into his new role in partnership with John Hoke, who is retiring after 33 years at Nike. He will stay on until October.

Having spent 20 years at the sportswear company, including nine years leading its footwear innovation team, the incoming Chief Innovation Officer has played a key role in developing Nike’s franchises, such as VaporMax and Joyride. He has also spearheaded a transformation of Nike’s running business.

In his new role, he will oversee innovation across brands, products, sports and platforms. His replacement as Vice President of Running and Footwear will be announced shortly.
