International cooperation takes central stage in Simac Tanning Tech 2025
The footwear and leather technology fair, happening in Milan from September 23 to 25, will welcome over three hundred exhibitors, emphasising global collaboration, sustainability, and innovation in machinery and production processes
"Simac Tanning Tech is the place where Italian excellence is showcased, promoting technology transfer and collaboration on a global level. It is here that we show the world how our innovation can help build a more competitive and resilient production system", commented Mauro Bergozza, President of Assomac.

Now in its 51st edition, Simac Tanning Tech returns to Milan this September, consolidating its role as an international platform for footwear, leather goods and tanning machinery. Organised by Assomac, the fair will take place at Fieramilano Rho from September 23 to 25, 2025, hosting 312 exhibitors, a quarter of whom are from abroad. Around 200 international delegates are also expected, thanks to support from Italy’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the ITA Agency.

Exhibitors will present advanced solutions in mechanics, automation and digitalisation, reflecting the growing demand for efficiency and sustainability. The fair’s partnership with Lineapelle, held simultaneously in Milan, further strengthens its importance by uniting high-quality materials with state-of-the-art machinery in a single showcase.

Themes

“In a particularly difficult year, with a 12.8% decline in exports in the first five months of 2025, our sector is showing solid resilience”, Bergozza shared. This decline underscores the impact of trade barriers and protectionist policies in both European and Asian markets. Despite this, the sector has demonstrated resilience, supported by Italy’s reputation for technological excellence and its ability to diversify into new growth areas.

One of the central themes of this year’s edition is international cooperation, particularly with Africa. A Memorandum of Understanding will be signed with the Kenya Association of Manufacturers, alongside UNIC – Italian Tanners and UNPAC, to support the development of the entire leather supply chain in Kenya. The agreement, framed within the Mattei Plan for Africa, aims to transfer know-how, implement sustainable technologies and strengthen local production capabilities from livestock farming to finished goods.

The 2025 programme will also feature thematic focuses on environmental compatibility, artificial intelligence and skills development for Industry 5.0. Highlights include a cooperation insight on decarbonisation in South Asian tanneries, discussions led by APICCAPS and FAIST on innovation in the Portuguese footwear sector, and a UITIC panel on artificial intelligence, sustainability and competitiveness.
