Gap appoints new Chief Executive Officer

The owner of Old Navy, Gap, Banana Republic and Athleta brands has appointed Richard Dickson as its President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective from the 22nd of August

“Richard has invaluable expertise in areas critical to the work Gap is doing to strengthen the company for the long term. And we are thrilled to have his visionary leadership as the company redefines the future potential of Gap and its renowned American fashion brands”, commented lead independent director, Mayo A. Shattuck III.

Most recently, Dickson served as President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Mattel, where he has been credited with helping to reinvigorate the company's iconic brands, such as Barbie, Hot Wheels and Fisher-Price, reaffirming Mattel as an industry leader. Before, he was President and CEO of Branded Businesses for The Jones Group, bringing “new relevance to dated fashion labels”, said Gap, which added that he also co-founded Gloss.com, the first online retailer dedicated to high-end cosmetics.

He was appointed to Gap's Board of Directors in November 2022 and will succeed Bobby Martin, who served as interim CEO and will remain Chair of the Board and ensure a smooth transition.
