French shoe brand Minelli placed into receivership

Minelli, the French shoe brand that went into receivership in 2023 before being bought the following year, has recently entered a new protection procedure, according to media reports
Founded in 1973, the footwear and leather goods brand, which targets a predominantly female clientele, was first placed in receivership in September 2023. It was subsequently rescued by three buyers in 2024: two private investors and the apparel brand Mes Demoiselles Paris. The three buyers incorporated Minelli into a new entity called Maison Minelli.
For the time being, the brand has not formally defaulted. In its first fiscal year, which ended in February 2025, Maison Minelli recorded a net loss of 4.2 million euros and revenue of 22 million euros. According to the court, the revenue result was 7 million euros below management’s forecast, since a dozen of the stores purchased turned out to be unprofitable.
By the time of the purchase in 2024, the plan to safeguard the label had already involved significant job losses and store closures. Only about 213 of Minelli’s 600 employees and 47 of its 120 stores would be retained. A recent court ruling shows that Maison Minelli currently employs 171 people.
Going forward, the management is hoping to relaunch the brand by “closing down unprofitable stores” and through “a new, more upmarket positioning”.
