Footwear exports' growth decelerates in Pakistan
According to the local bureau of statistics, the country's footwear exports were down by 7.84% in value and 2.34% in quantity in March, resulting in deceleration of the exports' growth for the period July-March
Footwear exports in March declined in quantity and value compared to similar period in 2014. Quantities exported declined from 1.37 million pairs to 1.34 million pairs, loosing value from 9.92 million US dollars in March 2014 to 9.14 million US dollars in March 2015, according to data recently released by PBS, the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. During the month under review, exports of leather footwear increased in quantity by 11.0% but declined in value, going down from 8.25 million US dollars to 7.18 million US dollars. The canvas footwear category registered a decline of 91.53% in value.

During the period July 2014 – March 52015 Pakistan exported 10.26 million pairs of shoes, valued at 98.72 million US dollars. This compares to exports of 85.26 million US dollars in similar period in 2013 and reflects a growth rate of 15.80%, according to the same source.

Leather footwear sales, representing the largest share in footwear exports (86.1%), reached 85.0 million US dollars and went up by 19.11% during the first nine months of the year.

During the same period, sales abroad of canvas footwear increased by 47.98%.

According to the World Footwear Yearbook, in 2013 Pakistan exported 14 million pairs of footwear valued at 108 million US dollars.
