Conexão Origem Sustentável returns for third edition

The Brazilian footwear industry will gather on the 30th of September for the third Conexão Origem Sustentável event, which focuses on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues across the sector's supply chain

Organised jointly by the Brazilian Footwear Industries Association (Abicalçados) and the Brazilian Association of Companies of Components for Leather, Footwear and Leather Goods (Assintecal), the event will take place at the Faccat Events Centre, in Taquara, Rio Grande do Sul. Cristian Schlindwein, Marketing and Strategy Manager at Abicalçados, highlights the growth and consolidation of the initiative on the national Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) agenda.

“Across the two editions, we had an audience of around 700 people keen to discuss and resolve issues relating to ESG practices within the footwear sector and other industries. It is an event we are proud of, and one that demonstrates the commitment of Abicalçados and Assintecal to fostering a culture of sustainability throughout the entire production chain”, he said.

This year's programme will cover a range of topics, including succession in family businesses, access to finance for companies advancing their ESG agendas, and sustainable supplier management. It will also explore the concept of ‘innovability’, which combines innovation and sustainability. Representatives from companies including Calçados Beira Rio, Puma and Adidas will be in attendance.

Aline Santos, Marketing Manager at Assintecal, emphasises the importance of the event in encouraging ESG practices throughout the footwear production chain. “We have a sustainable sector, but there is room for improvement. Conexão Origem Sustentável fosters this progress by facilitating relevant discussions and connecting companies with suppliers of sustainable materials and services in a practical way”.

The event will also feature the ESG Community again, which is an exhibition area where suppliers can showcase products and services related to sustainability.

About The Event

Conexão Origem Sustentável is one of the initiatives developed under the Origem Sustentável programme. According to the organisers, it is the world’s only ESG certification programme dedicated exclusively to companies in the footwear supply chain. The event is organised in partnership with Sebrae and sponsored by Sicredi, with additional support from Colorgraf, Dembas Embalagens, Faccat, Ambiente Verde and Ecovalor.
