Columbia Sportswear raises full-year outlook following strong third-quarter results

The US-based company reported strong results in the third quarter, with improving sales trends in the US and continued international growth. This prompted it to raise the lower end of its full-year net sales and earnings guidance
“We’re pleased to have delivered net sales and EPS growth exceeding our guidance for the third quarter. These results primarily reflected a portion of delayed Fall ’26 wholesale orders shipping earlier-than-expected, improved trends in our U.S. DTC business, and the continued momentum of our international business, despite challenging global macroeconomic conditions”, said Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Tim Boyle.
Third-Quarter Results
In the third quarter of the 2026 financial year, which ended on the 30th of September, Columbia Sportswear recorded a 2% increase in net sales on both a reported and constant currency basis, compared to the same period last year, reaching 962.6 million US dollars.Although the company’s net sales in the US fell by 1% year-on-year in the third quarter, this was an improvement on the 4% decline recorded in the previous quarter. Net sales in Canada also declined by 2% (or remained unchanged on a constant currency basis) but showed improvement on a quarter-on-quarter basis.
By contrast, net sales in Europe, the Middle East and Africa increased by 7% on both a reported and constant currency basis, and by 11% (or 10% on a constant currency basis) in Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region, compared to the third quarter of 2025.
Columbia Sportswear’s gross margin in the third quarter decreased by 20 basis points year-on-year, falling from 50.0% in the same period last year to 49.8%. This was largely due to concessions granted to factory partners, although the impact was partially offset by IEEPA tariff refunds received in advance.
In the third quarter of the current financial year, the company’s operating income totalled 109.6 million US dollars, up from 67.4 million US dollars in the same quarter of the prior year.
Columbia’s net income rose to 84.7 million US dollars (1.66 US dollars per diluted share), up from 52.0 million US dollars (0.95 US dollars per diluted share) in the same period last year. The previous quarter included impairment charges that reduced diluted earnings per share by 0.46 US dollars.
Nine-Month Results
In the first nine months of the year, Columbia Sportswear recorded net sales of 2.4 billion US dollars, reflecting a 1% increase (or a flat figure on a constant currency basis) compared to the same period in 2025.The company reported a net income of 145.6 million US dollars (or 2.82 US dollars per diluted share), up from 84.1 million US dollars (or 1.53 US dollars per diluted share) in the first nine months of 2025. This improvement in earnings included a benefit of 0.85 US dollars per share from previously received IEEPA tariff refunds, after accounting for concessions granted to manufacturing partners.
Full-Year Outlook
“While fourth quarter execution will be critical to our full year performance, better-than-expected third quarter performance combined with improving trends in our US business and the shipment of remaining Fall ’26 global wholesale orders gives us the confidence to raise the low end of our full-year revenue and EPS guidance”, added Tim Boyle, highlighting confidence in the fact that the Columbia brand’s ACCELERATE Growth Strategy is gaining traction and putting the company on track to return to sustainable growth in the long term. For the 2026 financial year, Columbia expects net sales to increase by between 2.0% and 2.0% (previously 1.0% and 3.0%), resulting in net sales of between 3.46 and 3.50 billion US dollars (previously 3.42 and 3.50 billion US dollars), compared to 3.40 billion US dollars in 2025. Foreign currency translation is expected to increase net sales by an additional 50 to 70 basis points (previously 30 to 50 basis points).
Full-year diluted earnings per share are forecast to be between 4.65 and 4.90 US dollars (previously forecast to be between 4.45 and 4.90 US dollars), compared to 3.24 US dollars in 2025).
