International markets support Columbia Sportswear’s second-quarter growth

The US-based company has exceeded its sales guidance in the second quarter, with international growth partly offsetting weaker performance in the US and Canada
“We’re pleased to have delivered net sales exceeding our guidance for the second quarter, driven by the resilience of our international business, which was partly offset by continued softness in the US, amid growing global macroeconomic headwinds”, said the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Tim Boyle.
In the second quarter of the 2026 financial year, the company’s net sales totalled 614.4 million US dollars, which represents an increase of 2% (or 1% on a constant-currency basis) compared to the same period of the previous year.
While sales grew by 12% (or 13% on a constant currency basis) in Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region, and by 10% (or 8% on a constant currency basis) in Europe, the Middle East and Africa during the quarter, they declined by 4% in the US and by 7% (or 9% on a constant currency basis) in Canada.
“We continue to see encouraging signs of progress with our ACCELERATE growth strategy,” Boyle highlighted, adding that they were particularly pleased with the performance of the Columbia brand footwear in the second quarter.
In the second quarter, Columbia Sportswear’s gross margin increased by 9.2 percentage points year-on-year to 58.3%, mainly due to the recovery of IEEPA tariffs, which contributed approximately 9.8 percentage points.
However, this gain was partly offset by lower profitability in its brick-and-mortar direct-to-consumer business, where increased promotional activity put pressure on margins.
The company reported a second-quarter operating income of 30.9 million US dollars, compared to an operating loss of 23.6 million US dollars in the same quarter of 2025.
Net income totalled 26.6 million US dollars, equivalent to 0.52 US dollars per diluted share. This contrasts with a net loss of 10.2 million US dollars, equivalent to 0.19 US dollars per diluted share, in the same quarter last year. “The recovery of IEEPA tariffs benefited diluted earnings per share by 0.93 US dollars”, reads the statement.
