Columbia launches new campaign to fuel growth

Developed with the London-based creative agency adam&eveDDB, the new campaign will be rolled out across all the brand’s consumer and marketing channels. The aim is to demonstrate how its products are built to perform in even the most unpredictable outdoor conditions.
In a statement, Columbia Sportswear highlighted that, over the course of its 87-year history, it has developed patented technologies such as Omni-Heat™, Omni-Max™, Omni-Shade™ and Omni-Freeze™, and has long designed performance gear that is tested in extreme conditions.
Therefore, while maintaining its commitment to technical excellence in activities ranging from hiking and skiing to running, the brand is shifting its focus to demonstrate the unpredictable and unconventional ways in which its products protect consumers in any environment.
To this end, the ‘Engineered for Whatever’ campaign takes an irreverent tone, pairing it with outrageous scenarios that present outdoor adventures in a playful light.
“Since Day One, Columbia hasn’t cared about fitting in with everyone else. Over the years, the outdoor category became a sea of sameness”, said Joe Boyle, Executive Vice President and Columbia Brand President. “Our new campaign brings us back to our roots, being unafraid to be different, and even a bit crazy. We’re going back to that irreverent, confident tone that helped put us on the map as a global brand”, he added.
This launch is part of Columbia Sportswear’s ACCELERATE growth strategy, a multi-year effort centred on several consumer-centric shifts in its product and marketplace strategies, as well as enhanced ways of working, all designed to attract younger and more active consumers.
“While business trends in our US business remain soft, we continue to take steps to re-energize the Columbia brand through our ACCELERATE growth strategy. In the coming days, we will launch one of the most impactful components of this strategy, our new highly differentiated Columbia brand voice and marketing campaign”, Tim Boyle, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Columbia Sportswear, had previously announced when the company reported its first half results. Net sales and net income had increased by 3% and 5%, respectively, compared to the first half of 2024.
