Clarks CEO steps down
The British footwear label has confirmed that Jon Ram has stepped down as CEO to “pursue other opportunities” after two years in the role
“Clarks announces that CEO Jon Ram has made a decision to leave the company to pursue other opportunities. Clarks thanks Jon for his leadership and contribution to Clarks over the last two years”, said a spokesperson of the company.

In the meantime, an interim executive committee has been formed to run the company until a new CEO is appointed. “To ensure continuity in the leadership of the company, Clarks chairman Colin Li and other directors will form an interim executive committee to lead the business, pending a new CEO appointment”, added the spokesperson.

Ram joined the company from HanesBrands in April 2022, at a time when Clarks had embarked on a turnaround strategy to address post-pandemic challenges and ensure long-term success. To revitalise the brand for a younger demographic, he spearheaded initiatives such as entering the metaverse; he also expanded the brand’s reach into new markets such as Saudi Arabia.

But by 2023, the worrying news started. C&J Clark International, the company responsible for Clarks’ UK operations, saw sales and profits fall in 2022 due to supply chain disruptions and weakening demand, and 103 global jobs were made redundant at the end of last year. Clarks expects these challenges to continue this year.
