Asos rolls out hybrid virtual try-on in app update

The online fashion retailer has launched a virtual try-on feature, which allows customers to see how products would look on them by either uploading a photo or using an AI-generated model that looks like them
This hybrid model aims to offer customers two different ways to see how products could look on them, providing more choice and control, and a more personalised experience. Asos recognises that some people prefer the familiarity of uploading their own image, while others feel more comfortable using a virtual likeness that reflects their size, shape and style.
“We know customers want the confidence of seeing how something will really look but don’t want to be pushed into doing it one way. Our hybrid approach meets them where they are, giving everyone a try on option that feels right for them”, explained Melissa Lim, Head of Digital Product at the company.
The virtual try-on feature will initially launch in partnership with the AIUTA fashion platform, offering around 10,000 products on the Asos iOS app. This feature will first be made available to a select group of customers in the UK and US before being rolled out more broadly. Each experience loads in just 4 to 7 seconds, “well ahead of typical industry solutions”.
