Amazon announces third quarter results

The US-based technology and e-commerce company has reported solid third-quarter results, driven by increased year-on-year sales across its business segments, particularly AWS
In the third quarter of the 2026 financial year, which ended on the 30th of September, the company’s net sales totalled 201.9 billion US dollars, reflecting a 12% increase compared to the same period last year. Excluding the unfavourable impact of year-on-year changes in foreign exchange rates, which amounted to 0.9 billion US dollars, net sales increased by 13%.
Compared to the third quarter of 2025, net sales from the North American segment grew by 6%, reaching 112.9 billion US dollars, and net sales from the international segment grew by 5% (dollars (an increase of 8% when excluding changes in foreign exchange rates), reaching 43.1 billion US dollars.
The AWS segment generated net sales of 46.0 billion US dollars in the third quarter, a 39% year-on-year growth. “Our AWS investment in functionality and infrastructure is working, with over 39% year-over-year revenue growth in Q3 (184 billion US dollars revenue run rate) and projected revenue growth rates of over 40% both in 2027 and in 2028”, emphasised Andy Jassy, President and CEO of Amazon.
In the third quarter of the current financial year, Amazon recorded an operating income of 28.1 billion US dollars, up from 17.4 billion US dollars in the same quarter of the previous year.
Meanwhile, the company’s net income decreased to 20.7 billion US dollars, or 1.89 US dollars per diluted share, compared to 21.2 billion US dollars, or 1.95 US dollars per diluted share, in the third quarter a year ago. This decrease is primarily because the third quarter of 2025 included 9.5 billion US dollars in pre-tax gains from investments in Anthropic.
Fourth Quarter Outlook
Amazon expects net sales in the fourth quarter to be between 240.0 and 247.0 billion US dollars, representing growth of between 12% and 16% compared to the same quarter in 2025. This guidance anticipates a negative impact of around 60 basis points from foreign exchange rates. The company's operating income is expected to be between 28.5 and 33.5 billion US dollars, up from 25.0 billion US dollars in the fourth quarter of last year.
“Our broader selection and speedier delivery are helping us capture more retail market segment share with improving margins, and our newer businesses, ranging from Grocery to Pharmacy to Amazon Leo to Zoox are progressing encouragingly. There has never been a trillion-dollar revenue business, and we may have two of them in the next 5-10 years”, concluded the CEO of Amazon.
