adidas expands India sourcing with new facility

The Germany-based sportswear company is expanding its footwear production in India by setting up a new manufacturing facility with Evervan Kothari Footwear in Karur, Tamil Nadu

The sportswear company’s manufacturing footprint in India is set to expand with the construction of the new Evervan Kothari footwear factory in Karur, which began on the 10^th of July. This joint venture between the Evervan Group in Taiwan and the Kothari Industrial Corporation in India is expected to produce up to 40 million pairs of shoes per year and create around 15,000 jobs.

Industry sources estimate that India currently accounts for between 5% and 10% of adidas’ global footwear production. According to the company’s January 2026 supplier list, it operates 14 facilities in India, employing around 22,600 people. Apache Footwear’s operations in Andhra Pradesh are adidas’ largest manufacturing base in India.

India’s role in the adidas supply chain is set to continue growing, as the South Korean manufacturer Hwaseung is planning to produce adidas footwear in the country at a new facility in Andhra Pradesh.

“As the company expands its presence in India, it is natural to broaden its supplier base, as global footwear brands typically do not rely on a single manufacturing partner”, highlighted Rafiq Ahmed, Vice-Chairman of Kothari Industrial Corporation, told The Hindu Business Line. He added that the sportswear group has built one of the world’s most diverse manufacturing networks, spanning China, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Cambodia.

However, despite this growth, Vietnam remains adidas’ primary footwear production market, accounting for 27% of production in 2025. Indonesia and China follow with 18% and 16% respectively. Last year, Asia accounted for 92% of the company’s global footwear production.
