adidas confirms data breach following cyberattack

The German sportswear giant was the victim of a cyberattack targeting its customers’ personal information. However, their credit card or other payment-related data was not accessed
The company confirmed on Friday that an “unauthorised external party obtained certain consumer data through a third-party customer service provider”.
The compromised data includes the contact details of consumers who had previously contacted the brand’s customer service help desk. It does not include sensitive information such as passwords, credit card details or any other payment-related information.
“We immediately took steps to contain the incident and launched a comprehensive investigation, collaborating with leading information security experts”, adidas said.
The German company is currently in the process of notifying potentially affected consumers, as well as the relevant data protection and law enforcement authorities. The number of consumers potentially exposed to the cyberattack has not been disclosed.
A similar situation occurred in 2018 when an unauthorised party accessed customer data on the US website of adidas.
