24.6 billion pairs: global footwear production in 2025

24.6 billion pairs: global footwear production in 2025
JUST RELEASED: In 2025, global footwear production remained broadly unchanged, recording a marginal increase of 0.1% to a total of 24.6 billion pairs, according to data from the World Footwear Yearbook 2026 recently released by APICCAPS, the Portuguese Footwear Association

Global footwear production remained broadly unchanged in 2025, increasing by just 0.1% compared with our revised estimate for 2024. The latest data from several of the world's leading producers prompted us to revise our estimate of global production upwards in 2024 to 24.5 billion pairs, indicating that output grew by almost 10% last year rather than the 6.9% previously estimated. The overall geographical distribution of footwear production also remained largely unchanged, with Asia maintaining its 88.7% share of the world total. Among the other continents, South America's share declined marginally, benefiting Europe and Africa, whose shares increased slightly.

FOOTWEAR MANUFACTURING REMAINS HEAVILY CONCENTRATED IN ASIA

The industry continues to be centred in Asia, as mentioned above. China maintains its absolute leadership, manufacturing 13.7 billion pairs (55.6% global share). India solidified its second-place position with 3 billion pairs (12.2%), while Vietnam increased its output to 1.7 billion pairs, representing 6.7% of the global total. Outside Asia, Brazil (3.4%) and Mexico (0.9%) are the only countries featured in the world’s top 10 producers.
