Skechers files patent infringement lawsuit against L.L Bean
The US-based sneaker company claims that the American retailer has illegally used its patented “heel cup” design. Skechers is seeking a jury trial and financial compensation
Skechers has recently filed a lawsuit in the Southern District of New York accusing L.L Bean of selling the Freeport shoe with two of Skechers’ patented heel cup designs.
“Only after Skechers incurred the substantial risk and monumental expense of developing and promoting its shoes with these Heel Cup designs, and established that they had broad appeal, did L. L. Bean enter the market with its infringing shoe”, reads the complaint.
The suit also sues unnamed individuals who “imported, advertised, offered for sale, sold, distributed or otherwise commercially used the accused products”.
Skechers has not been shy about using the law to protect its designs. Just last year, the company accused Laforst Shoes of copying its popular slip-on designs. In the past, it has filed similar lawsuits against Hermès, Brooks, Fila, Reebok and Steve Madden.
