Indian government considering monitoring imports of leather products
The Commerce Ministry in India is considering introducing an import monitoring system for the leather sector. Under such a system, the traders will have to provide advance information about the products to be imported
Similar schemes demand that importers submit information regarding the items imported in advance. The procedure is usually done through an online system and results in the attribution of an automatic registration number against the payment of a registration fee.

The Indian government introduced already introduced similar systems for sectors like coal and steel. Talks about the monitoring process of imports of leather products are still at a very early stage according to officials from the Ministry.
