Kering and LVMH strengthen model protection charter

The updated charter raises the minimum age of models representing adults to 18, and introduces stricter measures to combat harassment, abuse, and discrimination
Kering and LVMH have reinforced their joint charter on working conditions and model protection, based on the original agreement introduced in 2017. The revised charter sets the minimum age for models representing adults in fashion shows and photo shoots at 18. It also establishes a zero-tolerance policy towards harassment, abuse and violence, particularly gender-based and sexual violence.
“In 2017, we wanted to help change the industry by setting new requirements together for the protection and well-being of models. Nearly ten years later, it is our responsibility to go further. This strengthened charter reflects a simple conviction: the respect, safety and dignity of those who embody fashion are non-negotiable”, said Marie-Claire Daveu, Chief Sustainability and Institutional Affairs Officer, Kering.
Specifically, the two luxury groups have agreed to implement measures including training for brands, agencies, and teams involved in castings and productions, as well as closer monitoring of working conditions. Scenes involving nudity or partial nudity will be subject to stricter safeguards, including prior formal agreement and the use of designated spaces.
Strengthened reporting procedures that guarantee anonymity and protect witnesses, alongside unannounced workplace checks and audits, will also be introduced.
The charter also strengthens commitments to inclusion and non-discrimination in model selection while recognising brands’ artistic freedom.
“Through this initiative, LVMH reaffirms that the protection of models is not an isolated action, but a commitment shared by all players in the industry — brands, agencies, casting directors and models themselves. The Group intends to help bring about lasting change in the practices of the fashion industry”, commented Antoine Arnault, Image and Environment, LVMH.
