John Galliano enters two-year collaboration with Zara

Zara has entered a two-year partnership with John Galliano, tasking him with “re-authoring” its archives. This signals his return to the atelier following his departure from Maison Margiela in 2024
According to media reports, the Spanish fashion retailer has confirmed that it has entered a two-year creative partnership with Galliano.
As part of the partnership, the former Dior and Maison Margiela designer will “deconstruct and reconfigure” designs from Zara’s archive, reissuing them in new materials and creating new seasonal designs. This process has been termed “re-authoring” by the company.
The retailer added that further details on the collaboration will be announced in due course, with the first collection due in September 2026.
John Galliano is one of the biggest names in fashion. He led Christian Dior for 15 years before being dismissed in 2011 for making racist and anti-Semitic comments. After taking a break from fashion, he returned as the artistic director of Maison Margiela from 2014 to 2024, during which time he rehabilitated his image.
This collaboration comes at a time when Inditex’s flagship brand, under the leadership of non-executive chairwoman Marta Ortega, is moving upmarket to achieve new levels of growth. Zara has previously collaborated with designers such as Stefano Pilati, Anna Sui, Narciso Rodriguez, Samuel Ross, and Ludovic de Saint Sernin, as well as supermodel Kate Moss.
