Intersport appoints new CEO

The Switzerland-based sporting goods retailer announced that it has appointed Tom Foley as the new Chief Executive Officer, effective from the 1st of July 2025

Foley brings international experience in competitive markets and a deep understanding of the sporting goods industry to the role. Most recently, he was the Chief Executive Officer of GO SPORT, and before that, he was the company’s General Manager for the Middle East and held the same title for Courir and NBA at the Al Mana Group. He is also the founder of the Independent Sports Retailers Alliance in Ireland, which he led from September 2005 to January 2011.

As CEO, he will lead the global transformation of the Intersport International Corporation (IIC) by strengthening its network, improving efficiencies, strengthening partnerships with strategic brands and growing the company’s brand and private label brands.

“The IIC Board of management is confident that Tom’s vision, leadership and strong collaborative mindset will bring new momentum and innovation to the Intersport Group. This marks an important new phase in Intersport’s strategic growth, as we work closely with our Partners and National Organisations to keep delivering real value to our customers in 42 different markets”, said Corinne Gensollen, Chairman of Intersport International Corporation.

The appointment also marks Foley’s return to Intersport, having served as General Manager of Intersport UK & Ireland for six years until 2017. “I am excited to return to Intersport and lead the Group into this next phase of transformation and growth. It will be a privilege to build on the rich and long-standing legacy of supporting and empowering our local entrepreneurs in the industry across our diverse international markets”, he said.

Founded in 1968, the Intersport Group operates 5 464 stores in 42 countries. In 2024, it reported a turnover of 14 billion euros.
