Dass Group closes footwear factory in Argentina, lays off 150 workers

After nearly two decades, the Brazilian footwear manufacturer has ended production at its Eldorado plant in Argentina, citing deteriorating market conditions and a loss of competitiveness

On the 6^thof July, Dass Group announced the closure of its footwear manufacturing facility in Eldorado, Misiones Province, Argentina, which resulted in 150 employees being made redundant.

According to the company, this decision was made after all possible alternatives to keeping the plant operational had been exhausted.

The company added that the measure “stems from the worsening critical situation facing Argentina’s domestic footwear industry” and that “the combination of persistent production decline, a lack of new customer orders and market opening to imports has led to severe loss of competitiveness, rendering the local manufacturing base unsustainable”.

The Eldorado facility had been in operation for almost 20 years. Earlier this year, the company denied reports that it was planning to relocate the factory to Paraguay.

Despite ending manufacturing activities in Eldorado, Dass has confirmed that it will maintain a strategic presence in Argentina through its commercial and logistics operations. The company will continue to operate its brand management office in Buenos Aires, as well as its footwear distribution centres in Coronel Suárez and Cañuelas.
