Ancient Egypt footwear exhibition inaugurated
A new show displaying the different styles and shapes of footwear in ancient Egypt opened its doors to the public at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir
"Stepping Through Time: Footwear in Ancient Egypt" is the name of the new exhibition now inaugurated at the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir. Showcasing objects recently excavated or from the museum’s collections and aiming to give some glimpses of the footwear related issues from the daily life in ancient Egypt, the exhibition the result of ten years of research led by André J. Veldmeijer, a visiting research scholar at the American University in Cairo, in conjunction with the curators of the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir.

Through dozens of objects the show presents footwear through the different ages, from pre-dynastic times (3000 BC) to the Ottoman Empire. It also covers the development of different shoe and sandal types, the raw materials and technology used in their making and other important related elements, such as the symbolism associated or the status they represented.



The exhibition will be on display until the end of December.
