AIMPLAS prepares third edition of international plastics recycling seminar

PLASREC’s third edition, to occur in December, will combine expert presentations with practical workshops, offering insights into legislation and innovation in the plastics recycling industry
The Plastics Technology Centre, AIMPLAS, has confirmed that it will host the third edition of the International Plastics Recycling Seminar (PLASREC) in Valencia on the 10th and 11th of December 2025. The event will feature over 20 presentations from leading international experts, focusing on the challenges, technological advancements, and regulatory developments that are influencing the plastics recycling industry.
Program
The programme is organised into four thematic blocks. The first will examine the economic and legal framework shaping plastics recycling, with a particular emphasis on European legislation. Topics include the impact of the Packaging Regulation, the REACH framework and the European Green Deal.
The second block will highlight advances in waste collection and sorting. Attention will be given to the role of artificial intelligence and computer vision in classification processes, as well as approaches to handling complex waste streams such as textiles and footwear soles.
Recycling technologies constitute the third core theme. Both mechanical and chemical recycling will be explored, alongside emerging methods such as pyrolysis, devulcanisation, enzymatic depolymerisation and advanced extrusion.
The final block will address sector-specific strategies for achieving circularity. Speakers from industries such as textiles, automotive, electronics and wind energy will present how they are adapting to meet recycling targets.
Beyond the conference sessions, PLASREC will include a technical visit to AIMPLAS facilities, networking opportunities and workshops linked to the European project FREE4LIB and the national project CICLICOM.
