Brazilian footwear production increases by 4.5%
According to the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), from January to August this year, production of footwear and footwear parts increased by 4.5%, compared to similar period in 2016
Comparing production of footwear in the month of August 2017 with August last year the increase is more shy: 0.2%.
Footwear production in the first eight months of the year increased more than the average growth rate for the Transformation Industry, as a whole, which increased by 0.8%.
According to Abicalçados, the Brazilian Shoe Manufacturers Association, the 4.5% increase in footwear production in the first eight months of the year points to a slow recovery in the sector, which should close 2017 with an improvement in domestic sales and also across borders.
However, according to Heitor Klein, Executive President of Abicalçados, cautious must be applied: “it is still not a full recovery”.
