Portuguese footwear companies move production to masks
Several footwear companies from the north of Portugal are temporarily replacing the production of footwear with the manufacture of technical equipment
The goal of the initiative involving several companies from Felgueiras, Oliveira da Azemeis and S. João da Madeira is to donate the technical equipment to healthcare professionals and nursing homes.

This spontaneous movement will be coordinated by the Portuguese Footwear Technological Centre and following the technical specifications disclosed by the Public Health Authorities in Portugal.

Each type of mask has its specific production requirements. Disposable surgical masks, for instances, require a “triple filter layer for increased protection, securing elastic bands, easily mouldable nasal clip” and must be “100% polypropylene”, to assure “high responsibility, flexibility in bacterial filtration and resistance to fluids and splashes”.
