ISPO announces key highlights of its World Congress 2027 programme
ISPO has announced the full programme of symposia, instructional courses and technical track presentations for its 21st World Congress, which will take place in Bangkok from the 22nd to the 25th of March 2027
The ISPO World Congress is the premier global event of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics (ISPO) and a leading platform for international collaboration in rehabilitation and assistive technology.

The World Congress will bring together the international prosthetics, orthotics, assistive technology and rehabilitation community in Bangkok, Thailand, from the 22nd to the 25th of March 2027. Under the theme “A World Connected: Advancing Assistive Technologies for Global Equity”, the programme aims to connect science, clinical and technical practice, education, policy, industry, and lived experience.

The keynote programme will feature speakers including Sisary Kheng, Natasha Layton, Nerrolyn Ramstrand and Massimo Sartori. Topics to be covered include sustainable rehabilitation systems, user-centred care, equity in prosthetics and orthotics, and advances in bionic limb control. In the IC2A Inspirational Lecture, ‘Beyond Mobility – from Movement to Possibility’, Zy Kher Lee and his father Walter Lee will share their insights on how mobility can foster independence, participation, and opportunity.

The full programme features 34 symposia, eight basic instructional courses, eight advanced instructional courses, and 16 technical track presentations.

Scientific Programme

The scientific programme brings together experts from a variety of regions, disciplines and professional backgrounds to discuss the latest challenges in prosthetics, orthotics, assistive technology and rehabilitation. “This diversity is essential to the congress theme, because global equity in assistive technology depends on shared learning across systems, disciplines and contexts”, highlighted Cleveland Barnett, Chair of the Scientific Programme Committee.

Through symposia and instructional courses, participants can deepen their specialist knowledge, explore emerging approaches, and share practical insights. Topics covered include observational gait analysis, custom ankle-foot orthoses, adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, paediatric outcomes, upper limb prosthetics and orthotics, neurological rehabilitation, sustainable service delivery, osseointegration and foot amputations.

With the ISPO World Congress coming to Southeast Asia for the first time, the spotlight will be on expertise from Thailand and the wider region. Therefore, the event will explore how diverse local contexts shape rehabilitation, education, policy, innovation and access.

Technical Track

Following its successful debut at the previous congress, the technical track format is back with demonstrations and hands-on instruction focusing on fabrication techniques and material science rather than products.

“The technical track brings a vital hands-on dimension to the World Congress,” says Brad Mattear, Chair of the Technical Track Committee. “It highlights the skills, techniques and practical problem-solving that are essential to quality fabrication”, creating a bridge between knowledge and application.

The 16 presentations in the technical programme will cover topics such as digital technologies, prosthetic and orthotic fabrication, footwear modification, thermoforming, socket replication, partial hand prostheses, silicones, postural support, and wheelchair-related fabrication techniques.
