2025 I.S.P.O. World Congress draws 3 200 participants

The 20th edition of the I.S.P.O. World Congress, which focused on how collaboration and innovation can promote sustainable rehabilitation, attracted 3 200 participants from more than 100 countries
The 2025 edition of the I.S.P.O World Congress, organised by the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics, took place in Stockholm, between the 16th and the 19th of June. The event brought together 3,200 participants from over 100 countries, as well as a wide range of professionals specialising in prosthetics, orthotics, and mobility assistive devices.
With the central theme of “Science in Practice, Practice in Science: Collaboration and innovation towards sustainable rehabilitation”, the event featured over 150 sessions with more than 500 speakers. These included high-impact keynotes, symposia, instructional courses, workshops and free paper and poster presentations.
According to the organisers, “the scientific programme reflected the full spectrum of the field — from neurotechnology and AI to low-resource solutions and inclusive design. Sessions explored current trends such as digital transformation, global standards in modern treatment and care, and sustainable orthopaedic practice. Thematic symposia encouraged interdisciplinary dialogue and showcased the latest research in rehabilitation, assistive technology, and clinical innovation”.
The congress introduced new formats to highlight early-career talent and practical fabrication expertise. These included the Fika & Get-Together, the 3 Minute Thesis (3MT) student competition, and technical sessions that incorporated demonstrations and hands-on fabrication instruction.
The international exhibition also featured 192 exhibitors from 33 countries showcasing cutting-edge technology in areas such as prosthetics, orthotics, digital manufacturing, robotics and rehabilitation equipment. The start-up area highlighted next-generation ideas and entrepreneurship in assistive technology, with 25 companies participating. “That was the largest number of young innovators that have ever participated at an I.S.P.O World Congress”, emphasised the organisation.
The next edition will take place in Bangkok, Thailand, from the 22nd to the 25th of March 2027.
