A new Portuguese brand getting inspiration from the footwear craftsmanship of the 50s

João Pedro Filipe is the man behind the brand senhor PRUDÊNCIO. He studied at Institute Français de la Mode and graduated in 2008 under the Fashion Design International Program.  After he finalized his degree he has worked with several Portuguese and international brands, having had the opportunity to design a series of shoes and gloves for Louis Vuitton, with one model from each line ending up being produced by the internationally acclaimed brand.

In 2012 João Pedro Filipe presented the project senhor PRUDÊNCIO, a brand of men’s shoes and accessories, based on his grandfather’s assets, a shoemaker in the 50s. The project was developed with the support of the European Capital of Culture Guimarães 2012 through the platform Fashion/Hub and João Pedro Filipe won the British Council Young Creative Entrepreneur Award. The brand was officially launched on September that year during the London Fashion Week, at the Somerset House.

Getting the inspiration from the 50s and from the skills of footwear craftship, senhor PRUDÊNCIO shoes are made utilizing old shoemaking techniques, which are mixed with modern interpretations and new fabrics, giving the shoes a contemporary feel and look.  According to João Pedro Filipe, the brand: “Aims to be the personification of the Portuguese shoemaker from the 50’s, in the era of communication and branding”.

The brand aims to reach the fashion aware consumer, who is also sensitive to the contemporary cultural scene.

Operating in footwear and accessories for men the brand presents two seasonal collections per year and periodic special and limited editions.

João Pedro Filipe also created a modular briefcase for the bicycle’ steel horse set, a kind of modern version of the messenger’s bag, another proof that design and innovation are natural for the man behind senhor PRUDÊNCIO.
