Burberry reports a 5% growth in comparable sales in the first quarter

The luxury group reported a 5% year-on-year increase in comparable retail sales during the first quarter of the 2027 financial year, supported by continued strong demand for outerwear
In the thirteen weeks up to the 27th of June, Burberry recorded a retail revenue of 455 million British pounds (534 million euros), reflecting a 5% increase (or 4% at constant exchange rates) compared to the same period in the previous financial year.
During the period, comparable retail sales grew by 5% year-on-year. This increase was seen across most markets, with the Americas leading the way with a 12% rise in sales, followed by Greater China with a 9% rise and Asia Pacific with growth of 3%. Meanwhile, sales in the Europe, Middle East, India and Africa (EMEIA) region declined by 3%, reflecting lower tourist spending and the ongoing impact of the conflict in the Middle East.
The British luxury brand revealed that it had recorded growth across its womenswear, menswear, accessories, and childrenswear divisions for the first time in three years. Outerwear delivered the strongest performance.
“I am pleased with our progress in the first quarter and the momentum we are building with Burberry Forward”, highlighted said Joshua Schulman, Chief Executive Officer. “For the first time in three years, we saw growth across our Womenswear, Menswear, Accessories and Childrenswear divisions, anchored by the outperformance of Outerwear”, he added.
Burberry also said its ‘Portraits of an Icon’ campaign had helped to attract new customers, with the number of new customers buying rainwear increasing by 19% during the quarter. It also reported growth in ready-to-wear categories, including knitwear, polo shirts and swimwear. Customer acquisition was led by Generation Z.
E-commerce sales increased by mid-teen percentage during the quarter, while the group continued to invest in store productivity through clienteling initiatives, improved visual merchandising and new product displays.
For the 2027 financial year, Burberry expects its retail space to remain stable and forecasts high single-digit wholesale revenue growth in the first half. The company also anticipates completing its 100 million British pounds (117 million euros) annualised cost savings programme after achieving 80 million British pounds (93.9 million euros) in financial 2026.
