Footwear production with new record of 24.3 billion pairs
Just before the outbreak of COVID-19, the footwear industry has set a new production record. In 2019, worldwide, 24.3 billion pairs of shoes have been produced. Data is taken from the World Footwear 2020 Yearbook just released by APICCAPS

Worldwide footwear production has increased by 21.2% since 2010 at an average yearly growth rate of 2.2%. In 2019 the industry slowed down, growing by only 0.6%. However, this was enough to establish a new production record of 24.3 billion pairs, a record which might hold for a few years yet, given the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Asia

The footwear industry continues to be strongly concentrated in Asia where almost 9 out of every 10 pairs of shoes are manufactured. Over the last decade, Asia has slightly strengthened its dominance in the international scene, increasing its share of world production by some 2 percentage points.

Top Footwear Producers
China leads the rank of Top 10 Footwear Producers in 2019, with a world share of 55.5%. It is followed at some distance by India, with a share of 10.7%. Vietnam (5.8%) and Indonesia (5.1%) follow.
