The new normal in Malaysia
The country is currently under Phase 5 of its MCO (Movement Control Order) until the 9th of June. Manufacturing and retail are operational with restrictions
Footwear factories gradually resumed operations applying standard operating procedures (SOP) and several health and safety measures are in place. The companies must provide thermal scanner and measure symptoms such as cough, sore throat or shortness of breath every day at entrance of the factory premises. Appointed safety and health officers must ensure this practice is done. Readings of each employees must be recorded and kept for a minimum of 3 months for reference. If the body temperature reading is 37.5° Celsius or more, or the employee has symptoms, they will not enter the factory and the company must refer the employee to the nearby Panel Clinic or Health Clinic. The companies must provide hand sanitizer and all employees should wear face masks. Inside the premises social distancing must be respected. The company must always conduct a disinfection/sanitation process at the factory / premises before each shift or before operations begin - in accordance with the guidelines set by the Ministry of Health Malaysia. The sanitation and cleaning process should be performed three times a day especially in common spaces

Since the 5th of May shopping malls and retail stores were gradually open. The "new normal" is in place, told us the Malaysian Footwear Manufacturers' Association. Shop assistants must always wear face masks and customers' temperatures must be taken before they enter the premises (recording the name and mobile number of the customer as well as the date of visit). Hand sanitizer must be provided, there should be a limited number of customers in the store and social distancing should be maintained.

The Government of Malaysia has developed MySejahtera, an application aimed to assist in managing the Covid-19 outbreaks in the country. “It allows users to perform health self-assessment, assists users in getting treatment if they are infection with Covid-19 and locates nearest hospitals and clinics which can do the screening and treatment”, tells us the Malaysian Footwear Manufacturers' Association.
