Brazilian leather exports increase
According to the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry 15.946 million square meters of leather were exported in April, resulting in growth of 2.3%, in comparison to hides traded in April 2015
The analysis was carried out by the Department of Commercial Intelligence at CICB (Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry) following a report from the Department of Foreign Trade from the Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (MDIC) and has revealed an increase in leather and skins exports by Brazilian companies last April. In total, 15.946 million square meters of leather were exported in April, resulting in growth of 2.3%, in comparison to hides traded in similar period in 2015.

Considering the first quarter of 2016, the volume of hides traded has increased by 8.7% in comparison to the first four months of 2015. Growth in value terms was also relevant at a 7.1% rate. (approximately 0.67 billion euros).

The increase of exports in 2016 took place specially on leather of high aggregate value: a growth of 114.2% on semi-finished leather and 16.4% on finished leather from January to April this year in relation to 2015. To increase sales of such products is one of the main goals for the Brazilian leather industry.

“These are numbers that have been much celebrated and are the result of a great combined work towards promoting sustainability, commercial relations and the enhancement of our image next to the more than 80 countries that buy leather from Brazil. Actions within the scope of the Brazilian Leather project – an initiative of CICB in partnership with Apex-Brasil (Brazilian Trade and Investment Promotion Agency) – has proved to be decisive for such positive results”, commented José Fernando Bello, CICB Executive President.
